Helping ANIMA save the Macau greyhounds
The closure of the Macao Canidrome is just the first step, because once that happens the next goal will be to find homes and a new life for the survivors.
We have written the following letter to Dr. Chui Sai On, Macau Chief Executive and to Mr Leong Vai Tak, Secretary for the Economy and Finance Affairs, asking for their support in helping to ensure the safety of these innocent souls.
We support ANIMA Macau in this initiative, and will continue to do so.

Dear Sir
Like many other people in our country, we have been following for some time the hard work carried out by Albano Martins and ANIMA Macau to put an end to the barbaric treatment of greyhounds at the Canidrome. In the last few months we have taken part in international events calling for the closure of the Canidrome, and we learned with great joy from the press that what seemed like a remote possibility is now in actual fact almost a certainty.
We are also aware that this result is thanks to your decision, and we are very appreciative of this, in the name of the thousands of Italian citizens who have taken to heart the fate of the greyhounds of Macau. This decision will greatly improve the reputation of Macau in our country, in which commercial greyhound racing is banned by law, and where greyhounds are seen as pets.
Unfortunately the closure of the Canidrome does not automatically mean that the greyhounds will be saved, and therefore we respectfully ask you to do everything in your power to help those who have survived to find homes where they will be able to live out the rest of their lives with dignity.
We therefore appeal to you to allow ANIMA Macau to handle the space at the Canidrome during the transitional period, in order to be able to organise an international rehoming programme to help the greyhounds.
We ask you to support the efforts of ANIMA to save these dogs, and we for our part will actively participate in any eventual international rehoming programme. We also know that there are many other greyhound rehoming organisations like ourselves who are ready to help as well.
We thank you in advance for your help and support in this. It will certainly be appreciated by the international community, who will have an even more favourable view of Macau once the Canidrome is closed and the greyhounds are safe and free.
We are certain that each of the dogs adopted from Macau will bring a positive image of your country into our homes, and reflect your compassionate and far reaching choice.
Yours sincerely
