Trip
I tried so hard to win the race And felt the cold wind on my face. I hit the bend and lost my grip, The searing pain ran through my hip. The people booed, my owner swore Then someone carried me through a door. They laid me down, I cried with pain I knew I’d never run again. “Put her down.” My owner said, I knew that meant I’d end up dead. The vet glanced down and looked at me, My owner paid the vet his fee. The needle went into my leg With pleading eyes I tried to beg Help me to live, don’t end my life Just then the vet brought in his wife. “Her pain will ease, I’ve numbed her hip We’ll take her home and call her Trip”.
