Rest gently in peace Armchair Widow…may your spirit run free
Armchair Widow – a 2 year old black female – was destroyed last night at Newcastle dog track after sustaining what has been reported as a fairly minor injury.
The sad news came from an unlikely source of a syndicate member who was ‘upset’ that they were not consulted over what ‘treatment’ the injured pup should receive.
The Rules of Racing state “Rule 58 Greyhound – euthanasia, urgent operation on, treatment of If in the opinion of the attending Veterinary Surgeon the euthanasia of, an urgent operation on, or the urgent treatment of a Greyhound in the charge of a licensed Trainer is necessary for the Greyhound’s welfare the Veterinary Surgeon shall be entitled to proceed with such euthanasia or operation or treatment without the permission of the Owner”.
Therefore the vet who we believe to be employed by Frances Allen – has acted in accordance with the Rules of Racing. However – it is clear the vet has not complied with the RCVS’ Code of Conduct whereby they pledged ” I PROMISE AND SOLEMNLY DECLARE that I will pursue the work of my profession with integrity and accept my responsibilities to the public, my clients, the profession and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and that, ABOVE ALL, my constant endeavour will be to ensure the health and welfare of animals committed to my care.”
Absolutely disgaceful actions from a supposed professional who should be reported to RCVS for gross misconduct! Rest gently in peace Armchair Widow…may your spirit run free
