Pud is now safe and sound at home
Pud is now safe and sound at home – since yesterday New Year’s Eve at 19.10.
Yesterday evening, Pud allowed one of our members from Pet Levrieri to approach him and put him on a lead, thanks to a delicate and patient course of action agreed upon with Pud’s owner and the organisation Pet Detective Italia, which allowed us to get him to safety and avoid any hasty or improvvised initiatives which might have harmed him and spooked him into running off even further, with the risk that he might have hurt himself or caused an accident involving third parties.
This has been the end result of an extraordinary bit of teamwork carried out by the search team, made up of associate members, adopters and friends of Pet Levrieri, who threw themselves into the search for Pud non-stop, day and night, right from the moment he ran off on Wednesday 21st December, never slowing down or stopping even on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
The search team once again proved their ability to work together as a team, collaborating with each other with competence, passion, clear headedness, determination and perseverance, never losing their self control and demonstrating key skills of patience and the ability to avoid hasty or improvvised actions that might have cost the dog his life.
My first thank you goes to this extraordinary team and to the association Pet Levrieri, of which I am president, which is made up of and supported by people who put their heart and soul into helping out whenever needed, and who always know how to prove their commitment through real, constructive action.
My thanks go to them and to Pud’s family, Gregorio and Lorenza and their Mum, who showed an amazing generosity of spirit and real love for Pud, and who searched for him alongside us, day and night, without let up.
I would also like to thank, on behalf of everyone at Pet Levrieri, the many citizens of Brescia who notified us of a large number of sightings of Pud right from the first Wednesday night and over the ensuing days, and who collaborated with us on the ground by giving out information and abstaining from any direct action to catch the dog.
These citizens gave us useful information, opened up their properties and allowed us access to them, and gave us a hand whenever needed.
Thank you to the tradespeople, the associations, the authorities and the organizations open to the public, who allowed us to post leaflets and passed on to us sightings of Pud.
Thanks to the organisation ‘Gruppo Brescia Mobilità’ who alerted all its drivers, and to the recycling cooperative ‘Cauto Raccolta Differenziata’ who informed all their operators. Both organisations helpfully agreed to pass on to us any reports of sightings.
Thanks to the association ‘6 Zampe – Cinofili per Amore’, the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association A.I.S.M. and the association ‘Volo Libero Brescia’.
Thanks to the Rossetto supermarkets who posted the leaflets for us, at their own expense.
Thanks to the professional consultants Andrea and Alessandro from Pet Detective, for the consultation they gave us.
Finally, a special thank you goes to the children, the dogs and the families of everyone in the search team, who showed a great ability to adapt during these ten days when everything was non stop, and the rest of their lives had been turned upside down and put on hold.
So today is a day of great joy and relief. Below are some photos of Pud, taken straight after his rescue when he got into my car.
They were taken by his owner, Gregorio. These photos are a bit out of focus because Gregorio’s hands were still shaking because of the strong emotions he was experiencing. The other photos were taken yesterday evening, when Pud was enjoying being on his cushion, and asking to get on the big bed.
On the other hand however, it saddens us to say that this search, which required great care and was tiring like all lost dog searches are, was hampered and made more difficult by quite a few interferences, which have been documented, by those who acted without sharing the information they had access to and who created a disturbance in critical areas and moments of the search.
Also, during the whole time the search was going on, posts and comments were and are still being posted on Facebook containing lies, false assumptions and insults towards Pud’s family, by people who used the search for Pud as a competition about who would catch him first, a competition that is still going on in FB comments along the lines of “we would have caught him sooner”, etc.
This has certainly nothing to do with the wellbeing of the dog, which is all that really matters.
We decided not to respond, both during the search and now.
This way of relating to the world and other people, based on the manipulation of facts, lies, insults and the attempt to destroy the work of others does not belong to us.
In life and in our association, we wish to contribute to finding constructive solutions to problems.
We did this for Pud, and will continue to do so in the future.
