The 29 Irish greyhounds, gone to Macau, to run and to die. Here are their names and their history
The Chinese owner of nine Irish greyhounds exported to the “world’s deadliest track” in Macau owns at least 20 other Irish greyhounds – all of whose locations are unknown.
The Irish Greyhound Board lists Mr Wai Lok Chu as the owner of Two Stone Tadgh, Crossfield Simon and Crossfield Leona – three unfortunate dogs who ended up at the deadly Canidrome track. Their names are currently displayed on the Canidrome website.
Two Stone Tadgh was last raced at Cork’s Curraheen Park racetrack in December before being transported 10,000km to be used at the Macau deathtrap. In his final race in Ireland, he finished second last and won no money for his then owner, Jason Lehane. Both Crossfield Simon and Crossfield Leona last raced in Clonmel in January before facing the same fate.
Wai Lok Chu is also the owner of six dogs identified by Greyhound Rescue Association Ireland as having been exported to Macau. They are High Maintenance, Ballinulty Star, Ballinulty Show, Crossfield Marie, Bellmore Belle and Milled Ash. The latter two were purchased at a sales auction in Kilkenny on April 2nd this year. Ballinulty Star and Ballinulty Show were last raced in the UK at a greyhound track in Henlow, Bedfordshire.
The IGB website also lists Wai Lok Chu as the owner of an additional 20 Irish greyhounds whose current locations are unknown. Their names are Burning Fame, Barntick Fog, Cosmic Rossi, Confident Zach, Kilmagner Kelly, Lisquinlan Steel, Lisquinlan Curl, Seamore Tumble, Shendus Honey, Parlow Bolt, Lispole Butty, Neuro Donna, Marazion Tetra, Parlow Aussi, Steeple Rd Jewel, Steeple Rd Holly, Seaview Macfly, Lavan Trump, Volcanic Hawk and Hazy Hero.
None of these names appear on the Canidrome website – if they are at the hellhole venue, they are racing under changed names.
According to the IGB website, Wai Lok Chu has ZERO recorded race entries, which means that none of the greyhounds have been entered into races in Ireland since he purchased them http://www.igb.ie/results/greyhound-search/owners-page/?oid=628342
The Irish Council Against Blood Sports is appealing to the Minister for Agriculture to investigate this to establish what has happened to these 20 greyhounds.
